3 Things I Do Every Morning to Fight Inflammation (+ A Free Anti-Inflammatory Breakfast Recipe)

Inflammation is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot in the wellness space  but most people don't realise it's quietly affecting their skin, their digestion, their energy, and their mood every single day.

The good news? You don't need an overhaul. You just need to make a few intentional choices, starting with your morning. Here are three things I do every single day to keep inflammation low  plus a free breakfast recipe straight from my Anti-Inflammatory Ebook.

Tip #1 — Ditch the Coffee on an Empty Stomach

I know, I know. But hear me out.

Drinking coffee first thing in the morning on an empty stomach spikes your cortisol and triggers an inflammatory response before your day has even started. Cortisol is already naturally elevated in the morning  adding coffee on top of nothing amplifies that, and your gut, skin, and hormones all feel it.

Instead, have your warm lemon water or bone broth first, eat something nourishing, and then enjoy your coffee. That one shift alone made a noticeable difference in my bloating and skin clarity within two weeks.

Tip #2 — Add an Anti-Inflammatory Fat to Every Meal

Fat got a bad reputation for decades, but the right fats are some of the most powerful anti-inflammatory tools you have. Think avocado, extra virgin olive oil, walnuts, flaxseed, and fatty fish.

These foods are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which actively work to reduce inflammatory markers in the body. When inflammation goes down, skin becomes clearer, joints feel better, and energy stabilises. I make sure every single meal — starting with breakfast — has at least one of these in it.

Tip #3 — Eat Colour in the Morning

The pigments that give fruits and vegetables their colour — think deep blues, vibrant oranges, rich greens — are called phytonutrients, and they are some of the most potent anti-inflammatory compounds in nature.

Blueberries, spinach, turmeric, sweet potato, beets — these aren't just pretty on a plate. They're actively working to calm your immune system, protect your cells, and yes, make your skin glow. If your breakfast is beige, it's time to add some colour.

Free Recipe — Anti-Inflammatory Golden Blueberry Smoothie Bowl

This is one of my favourite recipes from my Anti-Inflammatory Ebook - The clean beauty kitchen and I'm giving it to you for free today because I want you to feel the difference for yourself.

Serves: 1 Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

Base:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • ½ cup frozen mango
  • ½ cup frozen cauliflower rice (trust me on this one)
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp fresh grated ginger
  • 1 tsp raw honey
  • ½ cup coconut milk or almond milk

Toppings:

  • Fresh blueberries
  • Sliced kiwi
  • 1 tbsp flaxseed
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • Granola (optional)
  • Drizzle of honey

Method

  1. Add all base ingredients to a high-speed blender. Blend until thick and smooth — you want it thicker than a regular smoothie so it holds your toppings. Add liquid slowly and only as much as you need.
  2. Pour into a bowl and smooth the top with the back of a spoon.
  3. Arrange your toppings however feels good to you, this is your ritual, make it beautiful.
  4. Eat slowly. Put your phone down. This is your moment. Take deep breaths and then eat. Do not for yourself to finish your food fast, go slow. Enjoy every bite.

Why It Works

  • Turmeric + ginger — two of the most studied anti-inflammatory ingredients on the planet
  • Blueberries — packed with antioxidants that fight oxidative stress and protect skin cells
  • Flaxseed — rich in omega-3s and fibre to support gut health and hormone balance
  • Cauliflower — adds creaminess and volume without spiking blood sugar, keeping inflammation low all morning
  • Almond butter — healthy fat to keep you full and your skin nourished
